Date of Next MeetingThursday January 6th 2005 at 7pm in Easton Village Hall. Note from AM re voting in cases where a new Parish Councillor is to be co-opted HAPTC have now told me that their comment to the Clerk that voting on these occasions must be by show of hands was advice only. There is absolutely no legal requirement that voting must be done in this way. They did, however, suggest that if we wished to have a secret ballot with the votes counted by Joyce we should amend our Standing Orders to provide for this. HAPTC did agree, on reflection, that in a village community voting by show of hands could be difficult for all concerned. At the next meeting I therefore suggest that a resolution should be proposed as follows: “That the following clause be added to the Standing Orders: When a vacancy occurs on the Parish Council and is to be filled by co-option (no valid request for an election having been made) if there is more than one candidate those parish Councillors present at the relevant meeting of the Parish Council shall vote by written secret ballot. The votes shall be counted by the Clerk who shall then declare the result”. |
